History

A rich history of Catholic education and commitment to nurturing young minds since 1959.

Our Lady of the Sacred Heart School is a Catholic institution founded by La Liga Catolica, under the leadership of Doña Julia Vargas Vda. de Ortigas. On August 6, 1959, the Congregation of the Augustinian Recollect Sisters signed a contract to manage the school, committing to uphold its Catholic educational mission.

Kindergarten Government Recognition No. 311, s. 1960, was granted on June 1, 1960, marking the beginning of the school's early education program. The school continued to expand, and on May 24, 1962, it received Government Recognition No. 116, s. 1962, for its Complete Elementary Course.

In the school year 1961-62, the school was also granted a permit to open Grade V and VI, and the first batch of elementary students graduated in 1965. That same year, a new building with 18 spacious classrooms was completed for the high school department. The initial enrollment of 70 students grew , a clear indication of the school's progress and success.

Government recognition No. 229, s. 1965, was granted to operate First Year to Third Year of the High School. Further recognition, No. 88, s. 1968, was awarded on the 7th day of June 1968, solidifying the school's reputation for providing quality Catholic education.

With the changes in the Philippine educational landscape, particularly the introduction of the K-12 program, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart School embraced the addition of two years of Senior High School. The school opened its Senior High School program with the following strands: Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM); Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS); and Accountancy, Business, and Management (ABM), ensuring that students are well-prepared for both higher education and the workforce.

The school achieved PAASCU Level 1 accreditation in 2009, followed by Level 2 accreditation in 2014. A resurvey was conducted in the school year 2019-2020, just before the COVID-19 pandemic.

During the pandemic, as face-to-face classes were suspended across the Philippines, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart School swiftly adapted by shifting to an online distance learning modality, ensuring that education continued despite the challenges. After two years, in the school year 2023-2024, the school resumed face-to-face classes, continuing to provide quality education to its students up to the present day.

In 1985, a non-stock, non-profit corporation named Doña Julia Vargas Vda. de Ortigas Foundation, Inc. was established to ensure the continued support and advancement of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart School. This foundation, aligned with the aspirations of La Liga Catolica, envisioned a community of disciples dedicated to authentic Catholic Christian education and humanitarian services to the poor. Through this foundation, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart School, supported by the Congregation of the Augustinian Recollect Sisters, remains committed to fostering a climate of fraternal charity and contributing to the development of fully human, modern Filipino youth.
